Pub history
This busy built-up area was once part of a farm owned by a nearby nunnery, founded in 1293. It was later run by one Trolop, or Trollope, who sold it to Roland Goodman. His son used the land to graze horses. In the 17th century, the open ground was bought by Sir John Leman, Lord Mayor of London. His great nephew, William Leman, laid out Mansell, Prescot, Ayliff and Leman streets which now surround what was Goodman’s Field.
