165 Town Street, Bramley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS13 3NA

This pub is marked on the OS Map of Bramley for 1890. An old date stone, in the outdoor seating area, shows the hard-to-read year ‘1877’; this may have been when the present building was erected. This pub, or an earlier one named The Old Unicorn, is recorded in a local directory published 50 years earlier, in 1822, when John Firth was landlord. The old inn (it’s been suggested that it then stood on an adjacent site) may date from the 18th century.

Photographs and text about the Cottingley Fairies.

The text reads: In 1920 a series of photos of fairies captured the attention of the world. The photos had been taken by two young girls, the cousins Frances Griffith and Elsie Wright, while playing in the garden of Elsie’s Cottingley village home. Photographic experts examined the pictures and declared them genuine. It was not until 1981 that Elsie Wright confessed that the fairies were in fact paper cut outs.

The original station was opened on 1 August 1854 and served for over 100 years.
