Pub history
This fine building, on Bicester’s main shopping street, first opened its doors to the public in 1914. The purpose-built post office was designed by Henry Collins of HM Office of Works. The building is now named after the famous stamp which marked the start of the modern postal system. The Penny Black was the world’s first adhesive postage stamp. First issued in Great Britain on 1 May 1840, it features a profile of Queen Victoria.
