Pub history

The bells of St Bartholomew’s have been rung on nearby Church Hill for centuries. The eight bells were recast in the 1850s, when two new bells were added. Situated just below Church Hill, The Bell Inn first opened its doors in the early 19th century. The inn was trading by 1818, when Mary Hyde was the licensee. The Bell closed in the late 20th century, but was restored and reopened as The Bellwether public house.
